About
Artsplace is a free-standing art school owned by the Town of Cheshire since 1991, operating as a department of the Cheshire Public Library. The school presents visual, performing, and literary arts programming alongside community outreach initiatives.
Classes, workshops, and camps run year-round for students from age 3 through 99, taught by over 20 professional artists, many recognized at the national level. Disciplines include drawing, colored pencil, acrylics, oils, watercolor, pastels, fiber art, and pottery, and standard supplies are provided for all classes. For elementary students, foundational drawing instruction is required before specialized courses; the popular adult and teen entry-point is the ‘I Can’t Draw, But I Want to Learn’ drawing class.
Artsplace is governed by the Cheshire Performing and Fine Arts Committee (CPFA), an eleven-member volunteer board established in 1989. Friends of CPFA/Artsplace, Inc. is the 501(c)(3) that supports programs and scholarships outside the Town’s budget. Office hours run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
