Writing Fiction From Life Writing Class

March 18, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Instructor, Nancy McMillan
Wednesdays March 18, 25, April 1, 15, 22, 29
7 pm – 8:30 PM

Fiction writers often draw material from real life and reshape it into fictional stories, often to “protect the innocent” and/or enhance the story. In this class, students will learn how to transform real people into fictional characters, create fictional settings from actual places, and turn anecdotes into engaging reads. In the first class students will generate story ideas, and then spend the next five classes developing and refining their stories, based on the time-honored 5-part story structure.

Award-winning writer Nancy McMillan is the author of March Farm: Season by Season on a Connecticut Family Farm, published in 2012. The book was a finalist in both the DaVinci Eye and First Horizon categories of the Eric Hoffer Book Award, and a recipient of a Sisters-in-Script Grant. Nancy was invited to be a writer-in-residence in May 2020 at Dairy Hollow Writers Colony.

The fee for the 6-week class is $135. Class is limited to 8 students.
