Video Staged Reading: Save the Palace
May 17 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
Waterbury native Roy O’Neil brings his “Broadway bound” musical about our hometown theater from NYC’s Theatre Row to the Poli Club at the Palace.
Save the Palace has it all – endearing songs, toe-tapping melodies, humor, corrupt politicians, and heartfelt moments! Previously titled Eddie and the Palaceades, this musical is about a rock group from the 1960s who come out of retirement to save the Palace Theater from demolition.
The musical was first presented in 2013 as part of Manhattan Theater Mission’s New Musicals Showcase, where it won the “Audience Favorite” Award. In the summer of 2014, Eddie and The Palaceades enjoyed a three-week run during the Midtown International Theater Festival, where it received great reviews and the award for Best Director. The show has since been produced by several community theaters in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
This past October, the renamed and refined Save the Palace was presented and filmed in an industry reading format with a cast of Broadway talent at Theatre Row in Manhattan, NY. This unique event provides the opportunity to view that 75-minute video of the staged reading and provide feedback to the screenwriter.
Roy O’Neil, the show’s author, is a Waterbury native and Palace Theater fan who enjoys receiving audience feedback on his work. He looks forward to presenting that filmed Theatre Row reading about the Palace…at the Palace! Following the movie, Roy will discuss the show’s journey to Broadway, answer some questions from the audience, and sing a few songs about the city he loves.
