The First Ladies Coalition Play

November 19, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

Actress Ginger Grace brings The First Ladies Coalition to Woodbury!

The play, created & performed by Ginger Grace and directed by Austin Pendleton stars Grace as Colleen McCracken, a resilient ex-con, immigrant and survivor of domestic violence.  The audience is invited to join four famous First Ladies as they step into Colleen’s sewing shop!  Via subtle impersonations, the audience is  transported into the life and times of Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Kennedy, Lady Bird Johnson and Mary Todd Lincoln.  Mysteries and secrets are unveiled – hers & theirs – and with the help of these courageous women, Colleen turns a life of confinement into extraordinary possibility. In 90 minutes, through the eyes of Colleen, we encapsulate the history of our country and the invaluable impact of these four First Ladies as they spoke out and changed the course of events, at times when women’s voices were often suppressed.  They are our forerunners – paving the way for our current wave of women in politics, the #MeToo Movement and social justice.

Ginger Grace’s credits include National Tour: The Presidents (opposite Rich Little). Off-Broadway: The Glass Menagerie (directed by Austin Pendleton & Peter Bloch: The Wild Project); The Saintliness of Margery Kempe (Perry Street Theatricals); Miss Julie (The Pearl); Faust; and Electra (CSC, Classical Stage Company).    NY Theater: New Perspectives Theatre Company; Mother of Invention, Mississippi Mud. Regional: Eleanor Roosevelt: Her Secret Journey (Schoolhouse Theater); The Belle of Amherst (by William Luce) and Inside Emily Dickinson: Her Poetry & Her Life (written & performed by Ms. Grace) (Both shows on Emily Dickinson, performed in theatres throughout the country); Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf (Penobscot Theatre);  and Doubt (West Shore Community College).  Favorite Film Work:  WEDDING MARCH by Deborah Savadge, Winner: PBS Reel 13 Competition & Winner: Amsterdam Short Film Festival; 6-Minute Mom by Chris Shimojima; and The Trouble With Tuesdays by Martine Sainvil.  Ms. Grace has worked with the CASA Program, helping inner city school children create their own shows – and she thrives in bringing out the voices of children in the theater!
