Superheroes & Villains Art Camp (Grades 2-6)
The idea of good versus evil is never more apparent than in the clashes between our favorite superheroes and villains. We’ll talk about what makes a good Superhero good and what makes a Villain oh-so-evil and then design our own! In this character design camp we will learn about: “thumbnails,” “style sheets,” “turnarounds” and “splash pages”. We’ll discuss costuming and logos and learn why color combinations have played such key roles in defining heroes’ and villains’ looks in the past as we design costumes for our own original characters. With this new knowledge, we’ll create our own comic books! In the latter part of the week we’ll turn our attention to the phenomenon that is cosplay (aka “costume play”), crafting key components from our hero or villain to become that character through costuming, cosmetics and acting. For our last day, we’ll put on a mini “Comic Con” in order to share our comic books with our families, and to show off our cosplay characters. Bring a bag lunch and snack.
