Secrets to Time: Photography History Talk

May 21 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Photography was formally invented in the 19th century. But it existed long, long before the days of telegraphs and typewriters. John Historian and author John Cilio for a talk about the birth of photography changed the course of history. The advent of photography heralded the first and only way to fully replicate something a person saw with no error, no exaggeration to the story and no tampering. That may have changed in the last 25 years. It took dozens of inventors and improvements in technology to create the breakthroughs enabling the true power of photography for the everyday person. Smart Photo editors said that every two minutes, humans take more photos than ever existed in total 150 years ago.

John Cilio is a historical storyteller, author and a member of the Organization of American Historians and the Association for the Study of Connecticut History. He is a storied researcher who has brought historical stories back to life for over 15 years. He retired from IBM corporate marketing communications and has published seven historical books and numerous articles for national and regional periodicals. His book about the evolution of helicopters, whose foreword was written by a son of Igor Sikorsky, is a listed reference source at the Smithsonian Institution.
